Greece, July 2012. Big fires in Achaia. Firefighting Aircraft of the Greek Air Force, including Bombardier Amphibians and Sikorsky Flying Crane helicopters battled the fire for days. Stills and HD video with a Nikon D5100 and 16-85mm lens.
As fire season approaches, Oregon-based Evergreen International Aviation demonstrated its new B747 Supertanker at an airfield outside Sacramento, CA.. It's billed as the world's largest and fastest firefighting aircraft. (June 11)
Planes were getting a little too close for comfort. Canadair CL 215 really is an awesome plane. Using a Bombardier 415 aircraft, this effective firefighting technique takes only 12 seconds, travelling at 130 km/h (70 knots) and 410 metres (1,350 feet), to scoop up a 6,137-litre (1,621-US-gallon) water load. The aircraft can scoop water from sites that are only two metres (6.5 feet) deep and 90 metres (300 feet) wide. When the water site is too small for a full pick-up, the Bombardier 415 aircraft takes a partial load and returns to the fire. In addition, the Bombardier 415 aircraft doesn’t need a straight scooping path. Since the aircraft is still in "flying" mode while scooping, pilots can easily manoeuvre around river bends or visible obstacles in the water. http://www.bombardier....
When on a hike to view the carnage a wildfire was taking on my hometown, I caught a fantastic clip of DC-10- dropping fire retardant in a treacherous ridge about to be enveloped in flames. Nobody wanted to come with me because of the steep trail and the inherent dangers of being close to a forest fire, so I was just up there alone. A very unique experience. On the way up the steep trail, I watched many other planes pass over the burning ridge and drop retardant and water, and I was just hoping I was going to be able to see the DC-10 make it's final pass of the day. It circled three times behind a smaller plane and dropped the retardant on the fourth. Jukin Media Verified (Original) * For licensing / permission to use: Contact - licensing(at)jukinmediadotcom

The Modular Airborne Firefighting System, also known by its acronym MAFFS, is self-sufficient technical equipment which can be used on board a cargo aircraft, such as a Lockheed C-130 Hercules, and that allows the aircraft to operate in firefighting operations as a "Airtanker". This allows the use of Air Force aircraft as fire-fighting aircraft, in case of need. Video Credit: Brandi Hansen, Master Sgt. Daniel Butterfield, Sgt. Ty Moore and Tech. Sgt. The Consolidated PBY Catalina, also known as the Canso in Canadian service, was an American flying boat, and later an amphibious aircraft of the 1930s and 1940s produced by Consolidated Aircraft. It was one of the most widely used seaplanes of World War II. Catalinas served with every branch of the United States Armed Forces and in the air forces and navies of many other nations. During World War II, PBYs were used in anti-submarine warfare, patrol bombing, convoy escorts, search and rescue missions (especially air-sea rescue), and cargo transport. The PBY was the most numerous aircraft of its kind and the last active military PBYs were not retired from service until the 1980s. In 2014, nearly 80 years after its first flight, the aircraft continues to fly as a waterbomber (or airtanker)...

Airport Madness 3D - Castlegar Fire Challenge. The recommended procedure here is to make all firefighting aircraft a priority if possible. The traffic flow is not difficult to handle, so this level is not too challenging. Try to avoid making an aircraft go around. Once a firefighting aircraft goes around, it does not come back to the airport. I am guessing it diverts somewhere else, not to return. facebook.com/ashleywincercom/ Instagram - @ashleywincer Twitter - @ashleywincer

A mine haul truck had just pulled away from receiving a load of ore when it burst into smoke and flames. The driver had just enough time to escape from the truck without serious burns. The fire was fast and vigorous suggesting the availability of a large amount of fuel within seconds of the start of the fire. More likely than not, the fuel preceded the fire in some form of aerosol. These mine haul trucks are valued at over 1.5 million dollars, which does not include the insured valve of the loss of production, which can dwarf the value of the truck itself. Chemaxx was hired to perform the initial on-site investigation. Results and findings are confidential at this time.
